Chicken farms to boycott fried chicken chains
Chicken farmers are threatening to boycott fried chicken franchises, blaming BBQ, Kyochon and other chains for dampening poultry consumption by raising the prices of one of Korea’s favorite foods. Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Group is stepping up efforts to adopt a holding company structure to streamline its business portfolio and bolster its corporate value. CJ CheilJedang has acquired a dumpling maker in Russia to capitalize on that nation’s growing frozen food market. Korea’s largest food maker said Thursday it completed the acquisition of Ravioli, a maker of pelmeni, Russian dumplings consisting of a filling wrapped in thin, unleavened dough, for 30 billion won ($26.7 million). The company, which was renamed CJ Raviollo Rus, is the third-largest pelmeni producer in St. Petersburg, posting 45 billion won in sales last year.
