The United States should start talks with North Korea without preconditions to build on the inter-Korean talks and make a real change, according to Kelsey Davenport, a North Korea expert at the Arms Control Association.

A former senior adviser for the U.S. Department of Commerce has advised South Korea not to retaliate against Donald Trump’s trade tariff actions on steel and aluminum because it will end up hurting Korea more. “Seoul has every right to fight back. But I might suggest - assuming the tariffs actually go through - that South Korea not retaliate this one time,” Sean King, senior vice president of Park Strategies, said in an interview. King previously served as senior adviser for Asia in the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service at the Department of Commerce.
