Kim Yo-jong, the younger sister of North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un, carried a file that observers speculate contains a letter from her brother, into her meeting with President Moon Jae-in at Cheong Wa Dae, Saturday. Kim later held the file, blue in color with a gold seal in the middle, with two hands.

Cheong Wa Dae offered a table of food representing all eight provinces of the old Korea to the North Korean delegation including its leader Kim Jong-un’s sister Kim Yo-jong and its ceremonial head of state Kim Yong-nam. The U.S. television network NBC identified PyeongChang as being in North Korea in a subtitle during its broadcast of the Olympic opening ceremony. A capture of the footage went viral. US ambassador and two defectors
With Victor Cha out and nobody in the offing for the job of U.S. ambassador to Korea, perhaps the current acting head of mission in Seoul, the charge d'affaires, could be a rather good choice. I am not advocating his candidacy for personal reasons of course. But an encounter with him at a Wednesday night diplomatic function presented that idea. “We are the cheerleaders,” acti...
Defectors want to tell Mr. Pence …
Two defectors, who are not included in the list of North Korean defectors to meet visiting U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, say that it is not time to let up pressure on Pyongyang. “North Korea believes that it has never lost to the United States,” said Lee Ae-ran, who defected in 1998. “In the 1968 kidnapping of U.S spy ship Pueblo, the U.S. yielded. During the 1976 ax killin...
How about promoting acting US ambassador?
With Victor Cha out and nobody in the offing for the job of U.S. ambassador to Korea, perhaps the current one in Seoul as charge d'affaires ad interim could be a rather good choice. I am not advocating his candidacy for personal reasons, of course. But an encounter with him at a Wednesday night diplomatic function presented that idea.

US VP Pence 'the undertaker'
Progressive people close to President Moon Jae-in have heaped criticism on Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and U.S. Vice President Mike Pence. Rep. Lee Seok-hyun of the ruling Democratic Party of Korea said on Twitter: “Mike Pence is trying to make the festival a funeral.” It is a reference to Pence's plan to meet North Korean defectors and visit the site where the ROK Nav...
GM may close Gunsan factory first
GM Korea will undergo drastic restructuring, which will most likely entail the closure of Gunsan operations and much more. The Gunsan factory is the smallest of the automaker's three assembly lines that also include its mainstay in Bupyeong and the second largest in Changwon. The Gunsan employs 1,500, about one 10th of the automaker's workforce of 16,000 and is now on tempora...
