The Korean-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KGCCI) elected Ingrid Drechsel, president of Bayer Korea, as its new German chairwoman. At its annual general meeting held Wednesday at the Conrad Hotel in Seoul, she was chosen to succeed Stefan Halusa, president and representative director of Brose Korea whose term ended that day. Drechsel is the first female leader of the KGCCI in its 36-year history.
Drechsel has been working in Korea since January 2015 as president of Bayer Korea. She leads all Bayer subsidiaries here including pharmaceuticals, consumer health and crop science.
Majoring in biology at Heidelberg University in Germany, she has built her career at Bayer working in various positions within the company. Drechsel noted she will lead the "cross-pollination of two extremely powerful cultures" to support change for a better world.
Bernd Gehlen, CFO of BASF, was elected German vice chairman and Ludwig Feuchtmeyer, CFO of Continental Automotive Electronics, was re-elected treasurer.
Since March, the chamber has a new governance system with two co-chairs, Drechsel for the German side and Kim Jong-kap of Siemens for the Korean.
