SK Telecom and KT will showcase emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), urban air mobility (UAM), 6G and metaverse at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC), the mobile communication industry's annual trade show, the companies said Monday.
This year's MWC event, taking place in Barcelona, Spain from Feb. 27 to March 2, will deal with five themes including 5G, fintech, OpenNet, cloud and digital everything featuring around 1,900 companies from 160 countries.
SK Telecom said it will focus on promoting its AI technologies and use emerging computing technologies to diversify its business portfolio.
Its AI technologies and services are called "A.," which is pronounced as "A dot" and includes AI technology applied to robotics, security, media and healthcare, an AI chip called Sapeon and an AI-powered solution for transportation called LITMUS.
Not only AI services but also other businesses, such as UAM, will be presented at SKT's booth. The company said visitors to its booth can experience a simulator of its UAM service, which will be realized in the near future.
"Including reservation and ticketing of the air mobility service, visitors will be able to feel the future transportation experience," the company said.

KT will also promote its digital transformation vision at the MWC. The mobile carrier, which has been working on becoming a digital platform company, will decorate its promotional booths with three zones that showcase KT's digital transformation platform, area expansion of digital transformation and technological lead in digital transformation.
In the digital platform zone, the company will introduce GenieLabs, a web portal for the AI ecosystem created by the company, and the AI chip design technology of its partner company Moreh. The company will also show how digital technology is expanding into various industries such as finance and media.
"KT is striving for digital transformation in other industries based on AI, big data and cloud technology," said Yang Yul-mo, head of KT's PR office. "We will prepare our exhibition hall enabling visitors from around the world to experience the most innovative digital transformation technologies among telecom companies from AI chips to next-generation network solutions."
Key figures in Korea's telecom industry will also join the exhibition. Lee Jong-ho, minister of Science and ICT will deliver a keynote speech on Feb. 28. As a semiconductor expert and ICT minister, Lee will introduce Korea's digital strategy that can improve the competitiveness of the country.
KT CEO Ku Hyeon-mo will share how the company has cooperated with other partners in achieving digital transformation at the MWC. Ku is a board member of the Groupe Speciale Mobile Association (GSMA), a top-decision making body of the global telecommunications industry.
SKT CEO Ryu Young-sang will also hold a press conference and have meetings with officials from global partners. SKT said Ryu will share the mobile carrier's AI business with partners to seek opportunities for cooperation.
