Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are set to introduce new and high-priced home appliances at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next week as part of their strategies to strengthen market dominance in the luxury segment, according to the two companies Thursday.
The event will be held in Las Vegas for four days from Jan. 5 to Jan. 8. At the world's largest tech show, the two Korean tech companies said that they are ready to make consumers' lifestyles more comfortable with more advanced technologies.
Samsung said it will unveil the Bespoke Family Hub Plus refrigerator, which features a large-sized 32-inch full high definition screen on the door.
The Family Hub refrigerator line was first introduced in 2016. Combining artificial intelligence (AI) with internet of things (IoT) technologies, the refrigerator is designed to offer various services such as entertainment, communication between family members, cooking and smart home control systems.
The Bespoke Family Hub Plus features a 32-inch touch screen, which has more than doubled in size from the existing 21.5-inch screen, in order to meet the changing trend whereby consumers prefer bigger screens.
Users of the new refrigerator will be able to enjoy the Samsung TV Plus service, which allows them to watch more than 190 TV channels in the U.S. and around 80 channels in Korea for free. Through Samsung's SmartThings IoT service, consumers can monitor and control various IoT devices on the fridge door screen, the company said.
"The Bespoke Family Hub Plus refrigerator provides an expanded experience as much as a bigger screen. The Family Hub will continue to lead the innovation and evolution of refrigerators by reading changing usage patterns and the lifestyles of consumers," Lee Jun-hwan, executive vice president of Samsung's home appliance division, said.

LG Electronics will also introduce five home appliances under its luxury brand, Signature. The second-generation LG Signature products include the Dual InstaView refrigerator, a washing machine and a dryer that feature 7-inch screens, a microwave that also works as a kitchen hood and an oven.
The company said its second-generation Signature products come seven years after its launching of the brand in 2016, adding that the new products are designed from a minimalist perspective and include new technologies that will enhance user convenience.
One of the distinctive features of the InstaView refrigerator is a transparent display that allows users to take a look inside when they tap the display. This time, LG embedded an additional screen on the door, which will help consumers to not open the doors so much, thereby saving energy.
"We have evolved the Signature appliances further by applying beautiful designs and innovative technologies that enhance the dignity of life," Lyu Jae-cheol, head of the H&A Division of LG Electronics, said.
