An artificial intelligence (AI) forum, planned by Chung Ki-sun, CEO of HD Hyundai, the holding firm of Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Group, and co-organized by the conglomerate and Seoul National University (SNU), took place at the university's college of engineering, Tuesday.
The forum was part of SNU graduate school's "Smart Ocean Mobility" lecture opened in September in collaboration with the group and the university. They have cooperated to train students in AI technology.
According to HHI Group, Tuesday's event was attended by Chung, SNU Vice President Choi Hae-cheon and some 300 AI experts here and overseas.
In addition to the group's affiliates, including Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, HHI, Hyundai Genuine and Avikus, various other Korean and global enterprises ― including Hyundai Motor, LG Electronics, Microsoft, Palantir, AWS, OneWeb, Deloitte, PwC and Korean Register ― sent their workers to the forum, where SNU and KAIST professors delivered speeches.
"By utilizing AI technologies, the shipbuilding industry will be able to carry out fundamental reforms," Chung said in his opening remarks. "Regarding AI as the key growth engine for HHI Group's next 50 years, we will offer unstinting support to the field."
Choi said in a congratulatory remark that he expects the university's first AI forum with HHI Group to become an opportunity for the two institutions boost their ties.
