SK Innovation Vice Chairman Kim Jun announced the company's plans to accelerate the innovation of eco-friendly business models in line with the global trend of carbon neutrality, focusing on the areas of electrification and recycling.

Kim made this announcement about the company's future business direction at the SK Innovation Global Forum held in San Jose, California, Saturday (local time).

"We will promote future growth through the development of a carbon-free, low-carbon energy and eco-friendly portfolio based on differentiated technology," he said.

In the future, SK Innovation plans to promote related projects through equity investment and technological and business cooperation with global leading companies in each field.

"To expand our eco-friendly portfolio, we are paying attention to various next-generation growth areas such as small modular reactors (SMRs) and electric vehicle batteries and materials in the electrification area," Kim said.

The SK Innovation Global Forum is an event that SK Group has been holding since 2012 to discover new growth engines for the future. The forum focused on business fields such as non-carbon and low-carbon energy, resource circulation and batteries, and invited local industry-academic experts for two days starting Saturday. The forum was attended by key executives from SK Innovation, including Vice Chairman Kim and SK On CEO Ji Dong-seop.

SK Innovation announced its goal of achieving net zero for greenhouse gas emissions before the 2050 deadline.

"The key to eco-friendly business is to bring net greenhouse gas emissions to zero, and we plan to make this a core strategy for the company's management," the company said.
