Recently I underwent cataract surgery. I had been myopic since elementary school, so I had taken my poor visual acuity for granted. After I became an orthodontist, my eyesight started to be even worse. However, I never thought about cornea surgery because I worried about unexpected side effects that might lead to a focusing issue. The ability of orthodontists depends mainly on the power of vision as they are expected to correctly bond braces directly to teeth.
For three years, I was troubled so much by poor vision. Fortunately, I could manage to do my job because hyper-myopia is paradoxically not bad for my work, although it was difficult for driving, hiking and when gathering with friends. I was in the dark for three years, enduring my poor vision for my patients. People with normal vision may not understand the dark and gloomy world of severe myopia.
At last, the time came when I could solve my severe myopia. I was also worried about problems with eye focus after surgery. However, as a result of choosing mono-focal (single focus for near vision) intraocular lenses instead of multi-focal lenses, which are chosen for ordinary activities, I can do my job as well as my other activities.
After cataract surgery, at first, I was surprised to see the faces of people whose eyesight was normal looking depressed. Why are people with normal vision not happy? The world that I can see with my new clear lenses is beautiful. The colors of flowers and trees are so beautiful that I am pleased just by seeing them.
I realized that I should sympathize with people at the bottom from then on. I was also at the bottom. Only people who had been at the bottom can understand others who are there without hypocrisy. Before I was saved, I was also in a miserable state spiritually.
The importance of eyesight should be emphasized much more in all ages because smartphones overwork our eyes. Luke 11:34 says, "The lamp of thy body is thine eye: when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light."
If you have super-myopia, you can choose cornea surgery at an early age if you do not have a job acquiring near-vision activity. If you have children who have mild myopia, you can prevent super-myopia by using preventive lenses.
One month later, I am full of joy because my eyes, the light of my body, are full of God's light thankfully.
