Prof. Jeon In-ho of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Asan Medical Center was elected as a member of executive committee and vice president of the International Society of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology (SICOT), representing Asia Pacific Region. The term of office is for two years starting from September this year.
Founded in 1929, the SICOT is the largest academic organization in the field of orthopedic surgery, consisting of members of orthopedic surgeons in more than 110 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, India and Saudi Arabia.
Prof. Jeon will steer the development of orthopedic surgery based on artificial intelligence, robotic surgery and tissue engineering, and will work on educational programs for the members of SICOT, strengthening exchanges and cooperation among members.
Jeon has been treating patients with shoulder and elbow conditions at Asan Medical Center in Seoul, and has also been leading the treatment of foreign patients visiting Korea while serving as the director of the Asan Medical International and the director of the International Healthcare Center.
He is also the first Korean to serve as the deputy editor of the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (JSES) and the chairman of the subspecialty of hand and upper extremity in the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association (APOA), leading the development of shoulder and elbow fields at home and abroad.
