Seoul's central district of Yongsan plans to refurbish pavements and install CCTV cameras to help the smooth flow of crowd traffic, hoping to prevent another disaster like the Halloween stampede that happened on Oct. 29 last year, which took 159 lives.
서울 용산의 중심 지역은 159명의 목숨을 앗아간 지난 해 10월 29일 할로윈 압사 사고와 같은 또 하나의 재앙을 막기 위해 보행 환경 개선을 위한 도로 정비와 CCTV 카메라를 설치할 계획이다.
The Yongsan District Office announced a bid for a road repair project within the Itaewon special tourist zone, covering a stretch of 1.4 kilometers in length and 383,292 square meters in area. The area includes the narrow alleyway adjacent to exit no. 1 of the Itaewon subway station and the Hamilton hotel, where the tragic crowd crush took place, as well as international food districts and antique furniture streets.
용산구청은 길이 1.4km, 면적 383,292 평방미터의 이태원 관광특구 내 도로 정비를 위한 입찰을 발표했다. 이 지역에는 이태원 지하철역 1번 출구와 인접한 좁은 골목길과 비극적인 군중 압사가 발생한 해밀턴 호텔을 비롯해 국제적인 먹거리 지구와 고풍스러운 가구 거리 등이 포함되어 있다.

The 830 million won ($623,886) project is slated to be completed by September.

By September, closed-circuit televisions (CCTV), equipped with artificial intelligence technology to monitor crowd density and detect early signs of crowd control disasters, will be installed in 70 locations throughout the neighborhood.
군중 밀집도를 확인하고 군중 통제 재난의 초기 징후를 감지하는 인공지능 기술이 장착된 CCTV가 9월까지 이 지역 70곳에 설치될 예정이다.
To ensure the safety of visitors during large-scale events like the Itaewon Global Food Festival, which attracts approximately 1 million visitors every year, the district office will take extra precautions.
용산구청은 매년 약 100만 명의 방문객이 찾는 이태원 글로벌 푸드 페스티벌과 같은 대규모 행사에서 방문객들의 안전을 보장하기 위해 추가적인 예방 대책을 취할 계획이다.
Other district offices that hold similar large-scale events have also implemented road safety measures.
비슷한 규모의 행사를 개최하는 다른 구청들도 도로 안전 대책을 시행했다.
Seoul's Jongno District will install boundary stones and braille pavement tiles in roads stretching over 1,700 square meters in the Buckchon area, which sees elementary school students during the day and tourists visiting the hanok (traditional Korean house) village on the weekends.
서울 종로구는 초등학생들 등하굣길이자 주말에는 북촌을 방문하는 많은 관광객이 통행하는 곳인 북촌로 일대 면적 1,700평방미터 구간에 경계석 설치, 점자블록 정비 등을 했다.
Skid-proof pavement has been installed on the roads in the club and shopping district of the city's northwestern Mapo District, while the southern Seocho District plans to implement AI-based video analysis technology in its crowd control system by August.
마포구도 홍대 클럽거리 인근 경사로와 걷고싶은거리 일대에 미끄럼 방지 포장을 시행하는 한편 서초구는 8월까지 유동 인구가 많은 지역에 AI 영상 분석 기반 실시간 혼잡도 관제·안내 시스템을 갖춘다.
