Wave of COVID-19 study results raises hope for vaccines

Early data from trials of three potential COVID-19 vaccines released on Monday, including a closely-watched candidate from Oxford University, increased confidence that a vaccine can train the immune system to recognize and fight the novel coronavirus without serious side effects.

옥스포드 대학의 정밀 관찰 후보물질을 포함한 3가지 잠재적 코로나19 백신에 대한 임상시험에서 나온 초기 데이터가 백신이 심각한 부작용 없이 신종 코로나바이러스를 인지하고 싸울 수 있도록 면역체계를 훈련시킬 수 있다는 확신을 높였다.

Whether any of these efforts will result in a vaccine capable of protecting billions of people and ending the global pandemic that has claimed more than 600,000 lives is still far from clear.

그러나 이러한 시도들 중 어느 것이 수십억명의 사람들을 보호할 수 있는 백신을 만들어내고, 60만명 이상의 생명을 앗아간 이 세계적인 전염병을 종식시킬 수 있을지는 아직 명확하지 않다.

All will require much larger studies to prove they can safely prevent infection or serious disease.

백신들은 모두 감염이나 심각한 질병을 안전하게 예방할 수 있다는 것을 증명하기 위해 훨씬 더 많은 연구가 필요할 것이다.

The vaccine being developed by British drugmaker AstraZeneca along with the Oxford University, induced an immune response in all study participants who received two doses without any worrisome side effects. (Reuters)
