Choo Seung-ho, the new president of the Korea News Editors' Association |
Choo Seung-ho from Yonhap News TV was named the new president of the Korea News Editors' Association. He has been serving as senior vice president of the state news broadcaster since 2021.
Choo's appointment as the 25th president of the association was made at Press Center in central Seoul during the association's general assembly. In his speech that day, he said he will lead the group to not just produce critical news reports happening in the county but also launch a new "debate club" for chief news editors of the country to help them chisel their analytic visions.
His future agenda also included introducing a new professional journalism school in the country with accredited degrees for graduates.
After graduating from Korea University, Choo started working for Yonhap News Agency Group in 1992. He built up his career as a Washington D.C. correspondent at Yonhap News TV. At Yonhap News Agency, he also served as a business desk editor and a deputy editor-in-chief for the politics desk.
Following Choo's appointment, the association is expected to host another general assembly to appoint his executive aides including the vice president, auditor and director.
Established in 1957, four years after the end of the Korean War, the association currently is joined by chief editors and editorialists from 59 major newspaper, TV and wire agencies in the country.
