Everton midfielder Andre Gomes could play again before the end of the season after surgery on his broken ankle went well, his club manager Marco Silva said Thursday.
에버튼의 마르코 실바 감독은 지난 목요일 안드레 고메스의 발목 골절 수술이 잘 끝났고, 그가 이번 시즌 종료 전에 복귀할 수 있다고 밝혔다.
The 26-year-old Portuguese international suffered a fracture dislocation of the right ankle after being tripped by Tottenham Hotspur's Son Heung-min in Sunday's 1-1 draw.
포루투갈 국가대표인 안드레 고메스(26)는 지난 일요일 토트넘과의 1대1 무승부 경기에서 손흥민의 태클로 넘어지며 오른쪽 발목이 '골절탈구'됐다.
Silva said the news from the club medical staff had been mildly encouraging following Monday's surgery and suggested a return could be feasible before the end of the campaign in mid-May.
실바 감독은 구단 의료진으로부터 받은 고메스의 수술 소식이 고무적이라며 5월 중순 시즌이 끝나기 전에 복귀가 가능할 것이라고 말했다.
"It's not easy for us to give a sure date about when he will return," Silva said at his press conference ahead of this weekend's match with fellow strugglers Southampton.
실바 감독은 강등권 탈출을 위해 고군분투하는 사우샘프턴과의 리그 경기를 앞두고 열린 기자회견에서 "고메스의 정확한 복귀일은 우리도 알려주기가 어렵다"고 말했다.
"What's in our mind and the feedback I have from our medical staff is that it's possible we will see Andre playing again this season.
"우리는 의료진들에게서 들은 소식에 따라 안드레 고메스가 이번 시즌 경기장에 복귀하는 게 가능하다고 생각한다"
"Of course, it's not something we are 100 percent sure about, but we have good possibilities to do that. "He is strong, he will keep strong for sure and will become stronger as a player."
"당연히 100퍼센트로 확신할 수 있는 것은 아니다. 하지만 우리는 충분히 가능하다고 여긴다. 고메스는 강한 선수이며 더 강한 선수로 돌아올 것"이라고 덧붙였다.
Silva said he understood the distress of Son and Ivory Coast defender Serge Aurier.
실바 감독은 손흥민과 코트디부아르(영어권에서는 아이보리코스트)의 국가대표 수비수 세르지 오리에가 느꼈을 정신적 충격을 이해한다고 전했다.
Gomes fell awkwardly following the challenge from Son and his momentum carried him into Aurier.
고메스는 손흥민의 태클 이후 어색한 자세로 넘어지며 오리에와 부딪혔다.
Son, whose red card was rescinded on appeal, was visibly distraught while Aurier had to be replaced soon afterwards due to being so upset.
구단의 항소로 레드카드가 취소된 손흥민은 충격으로 넋이 나갔고, 오리에는 속상함으로 인해 금방 교체되어 나갔다.
"Yes, I think he (Gomes) received a text message or something like that from Son," said Silva. "Of course that was a tougher moment for Andre, for sure, than all the others on the pitch.
실바 감독은 "고메스가 손흥민으로부터 문자메시지 또는 다른 형태의 연락을 받은 것으로 안다"라며 "물론 경기장에 있던 그 누구보다 안드레의 시련이 가장 컸다"고 말했다.
"The toughest moment was for Andre, but of course for the two players who were involved, first Son and after, Aurier, it was really tough as well." (AFP)
이어 "지금 가장 힘든 건 안드레다. 하지만 이번 사고에 연루된 손흥민과 오리에도 힘들긴 마찬가지다"라고 전했다.
