BLACKPINK returns as lovely yet fatal 'Pink Venom'

After taking a break for nearly two years, K-pop bigwig BLACKPINK has returned with a new song, "Pink Venom," which plays up the group's two contrasting images: loveliness and fatality.
약 2년 간의 공백기 이후 컴백한 K팝 거물 블랙핑크의 신곡 ‘핑크 베놈(Pink Venom)'은 블랙핑크가 가진 대조적 이미지인 사랑스러움과 치명성을 보여준다.

During an online press conference held Friday, member Jennie revealed that "Pink Venom" encapsulates BLACKPINK's identity as a multifaceted group. The tune ― which is part of the quartet's second full-length album, "Born Pink," which will drop on Sept. 16 ― hit multiple streaming platforms at 1 p.m., Friday (KST).
금요일에 열린 온라인 기자간담회에서 블랙핑크 멤버 제니는 신곡 ‘핑크 베놈'이 블랙핑크의 정체성인 반전 매력을 압축한 곡이라고 밝혔다. 9월 16일 발표되는 4인조 그룹의 정규 2집 앨범 ‘본 핑크(Born Pink)'의 선공개곡인 이번 신곡은 금요일 오후 1시 (한국시간) 여러 스트리밍 플랫폼에 공개되었다.

"Since our debut in 2016, we have frequently said our contrasting images are our charm," Jennie told reporters. "And we think 'Pink Venom' clearly shows them."
제니는 "2016년 데뷔 때부터 반전이 우리의 매력이라고 말해왔다"고 전한 한편 "'핑크 베놈'은 이를 잘 표현한다고 생각한다"고 덧붙였다.

According to Jisoo, "Pink Venom" is a powerful hip-hop track sprinkled with sounds of the geomungo, a traditional Korean plucked zither.
지수에 따르면 ‘핑크 베놈'은 한국 전통 현악기인 거문고 사운드가 포함된 강렬한 힙합 트랙이다.

"There are many good tunes in our upcoming studio album, but we wanted to unveil 'Pink Venom' first," Lisa explained. "I think people will have higher expectations of our album once they hear 'Pink Venom.'"
리사는 "다가오는 정규 앨범에도 좋은 곡들이 많지만, ‘핑크 베놈'을 먼저 공개하고 싶었다"면서 "'핑크 베놈'을 듣고 나면 정규 2집 전곡이 더 기대될 것이라고 생각한다"고 설명했다.

Rose elaborated, "When I heard the song for the first time, I felt it had a new sound that we have never used before … I want to showcase our performance to people as soon as possible."
로제는 "신곡을 처음 들었는데, 아직 시도해보지 않은 사운드가 있었다. 그래서 빨리 이 곡을 무대에서 보여드리고 싶었다"고 설명했다.

Describing "Pink Venom" as "conceptual," Jisoo added that its music video offers a bunch of different aesthetics.
‘핑크 베놈'을 ‘컨셉츄얼'하다고 설명한 지수는 뮤직비디오에 다양한 아름다움을 담았다고 전했다.

"All of us tried new hairstyles and makeup to wow our fans," she said.
지수는 "팬들을 놀라게 할 새로운 헤어와 메이크업을 시도했다"고 밝혔다.

According to BLACKPINK's management company, YG Entertainment, it made "the largest-ever investment" to film the music video, which incorporates some traditional elements by featuring a geomungo and an ancient sundial. The clip has already exceeded 100 million views on YouTube as of 6:35 p.m. on Saturday, only about 29 hours after its release, which is the fastest among music videos of any K-pop girl group.
블랙핑크 소속사 YG 엔터테인먼트에 따르면 거문고, 해시계 등이 등장하는 이번 뮤직비디오에는 ‘역대 최고 제작비'가 투입되었다. 해당 뮤직비디오는 공개 29시간만인 토요일 오후 6시 35분에 이미 1억 뷰를 넘어섰는데 이는 K팝 걸그룹 중 최단 기록이다.

This is not the only musical feat that BLACKPINK has achieved recently. Its upcoming album, "Born Pink," already racked up more than 1.5 million pre-orders as of Thursday. And following its release, BLACKPINK is poised to kick off a world tour, performing in front of 1.5 million audience members. The group had its last world tour, "IN YOUR AREA," in 2019.
블랙핑크가 최근 달성한 음악적 업적은 이뿐만이 아니다. 곧 발매하는 정규 앨범 ‘본 핑크'는 목요일 선주문 150만 장을 넘어섰다. 뒤이어 블랙핑크는 150만 명 규모의 월드투어도 예고했다. 블랙핑크는 2019년 마지막으로 월드 투어 ‘인 유어 에어리어(IN YOUR AREA)'를 마쳤다.

"Since we are starting a new world tour after a long time, we spent much time thinking about how we can reveal our unexplored sides without ditching our original style," Jennie said. "For the upcoming concerts, we will perform many of our new songs while giving a spin to the performances that we showed before."
제니는 "오랜만의 투어라 어떻게 본래의 매력을 버리지 않으면서도 보여드리지 않은 모습을 드러내야 할지 고민을 많이 했다"며 "다가오는 콘서트에서도 기존에 보여준 곡들에 변화를 시도하는 한편 여러 신곡들도 보여줄 것"이라 전했다.
