K-pop boy band ATEEZ has donated 100 million won ($71,000) to support the victims of the deadly crowd crush in Itaewon on Oct. 29, which claimed the lives of 156 people and injured 197 others.
The eight-piece act handed the cash to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association, the charity organization said Saturday.
"ATEEZ's members have been deeply mourning the victims of Itaewon tragedy," ATEEZ's management company, KQ Entertainment said. "They decided to make a contribution to give a helping hand to the bereaved families and the injured people."
The singers reportedly donated the proceeds of their previous concert. During their Seoul concert on Oct. 30 ― which is part of its "THE FELLOWSHIP : BREAK THE WALL" world tour ― they also paid their respects to the victims by having a moment of silence. ATEEZ, which burst onto the K-pop scene in 2018, is best known for its songs such as, "Turbulence" (2021).
Two days before ATEEZ's donation made headlines, actress Lee Young-ae ― who starred in the 2003 historical drama, "Dae Jang Geum (Jewel in the Palace)" ― donated $5,000 to send the body of Yuliana Pak, a 25-year-old Korean Russian who died in the Halloween crush, to Russia via a ferry.
